Students will build LEGO models featuring motors and sensors that are programmed through computer software. Students will explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities that will develop their skills in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, as well as language and communication skills. A $20 computer lab fee is included in this price.

During this "full day" workshop, participants pair-up their creativity with LEGO® bricks to construct a miniature city that includes structures such as houses, office buildings, bridges, and towers. Mathematics and engineering principles are involved in the design of their creations. Measurement, estimation, architectural forms, and geometric concepts also are used. During this week, students learn about the function of the different components that comprise a city, such as an airport, train station, mass transit system, city hall, green spaces, schools, fire department, police department, medical community, and library. Civics and the leadership skills needed to run a city are also examined. There is a one hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. during each of these five days. Participants may sign up for one of the lunch option at St. David's or parents may take their children out for lunch.

This workshop engages the students with math and engineering challenges as they explore the fire department first responders and how they help with community emergencies from extinguishing fires to rescuing a cat high up in a tree. Participants, using LEGO Duplo bricks, will recreate the drama and excitement of fire rescue with endless possibilities of role-play and exploration. Constructing a fire station, a hook and ladder truck, a rescue helicopter, and related items will add to the excitement. Participants work with math and engineering challenges as they explore the police department and the hospital medical team and how they help with community emergencies. Participants recreate the drama and excitement of helping others in time of crisis. Students can build a police station, along with police cars, motorcycles, and helicopters. They will also be able to build a medical center, complete with a doctor's office and furnished hospital rooms, ambulances, and specialized medical equipment. The movable walls enable students to rebuild both the police station and the hospital in many ways. Role-play and exploration abound in this workshop.

This workshop focuses on various modes of transportation and their surroundings. The world of cars, trucks, boats, trains, airplanes, and helicopters will be discussed and built. Using LEGO Duplo bricks, their “builds” will help participants drive cars and trucks through cities and the countryside, pilot boats over the waterways, take off and land airplanes and helicopters, and engineer their train as it pulls boxcars filled with wares. These activities will spark their imagination as they configure the train track in different ways to create a variety of settings. Structures such as a bridge, crossing guardrails, a train station, and fences, as well as constructing trees and other plants are also explored. Fine and gross motor skills, mathematics, engineering, and architectural concepts are involved in the design of their personal renditions. Constructing a fire station, a hook and ladder truck, a rescue helicopter, and related items will add to the excitement. Participants work with math and engineering challenges as they explore the police department and the hospital medical team and how they help with community emergencies. Participants recreate the drama and excitement of helping others in time of crisis. Students can build a police station, along with police cars, motorcycles, and helicopters. They will also be able to build a medical center, complete with a doctor's office and furnished hospital rooms, ambulances, and specialized medical equipment. The movable walls enable students to rebuild both the police station and the hospital in many ways. Role-play and exploration abound in this workshop.

During this "full day" workshop, participants pair-up their creativity with LEGO® bricks to construct a miniature city that includes structures such as houses, office buildings, bridges, and towers. Mathematics and engineering principles are involved in the design of their creations. Measurement, estimation, architectural forms, and geometric concepts also are used. During this week, students learn about the function of the different components that comprise a city, such as an airport, train station, mass transit system, city hall, green spaces, schools, fire department, police department, medical community, and library. Civics and the leadership skills needed to run a city are also examined. There is a one hour lunch break from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. during each of these five days.
